How I Built Empowering Virtual Solution in 4 Years: My Journey, Lessons, and Insights

Reintroducing Myself

Hi, I’m Francesca Moi. I’m a business owner, entrepreneur, problem solver, and soon-to-be mum. I’ve been living in Australia for nearly 20 years, but I’m Italian at heart. I love numbers, challenges, and finding smarter ways to run businesses. My measure of success has evolved—it’s not just about revenue anymore. It’s about how much time I can reclaim while scaling my business effectively.

I love life outside business too. Salsa dancing, beach tennis (though I haven’t played in a while), and spending time with my baby boy, Ollie, keep me energised and grounded.

Why I Started Empowering Virtual Solution

EVS grew out of a part of my previous business, Empowering Events, where I helped coaches hire and train virtual assistants. When COVID hit, the in-person academy paused, but the VA support side was still in high demand.

Hiring locally in Australia is expensive. If I wanted to scale my business—and help other business owners do the same—the solution was skilled, offshore virtual assistants. People needed VAs, and I had the systems, experience, and team to deliver.

The Problem I Saw

Many business owners think doing it all themselves is faster. It’s not. You can’t scale a business without hiring support or capping your workload. There are only 24 hours in a day. My mission with EVS is to help business owners reclaim their time, scale confidently, and stop burning out.

My Vision Then and Now

When I started EVS, my vision was simple: run a lean business with minimal local staff and about 50 clients. That quickly evolved. I realised I was a bottleneck if I didn’t build a team to handle what I wasn’t great at.

Today, EVS supports 86 clients with 20 skilled staff in the Philippines, aiming for 100 clients while maintaining quality and impact. I want to be the visionary, not the day-to-day operator. That freedom is what drives me.

The Hardest Challenges

Starting EVS while winding down another business was intense. I didn’t have enough cash flow, staff, or resources, but I was committed to delivering results. I went from zero to $1 million in under 12 months by being consistent in every area—sales, client support, finances, and team management.

Consistency is a lesson I keep learning. Even when I get distracted, dropping what works only slows growth. It’s the key to building a business that scales sustainably.

The Impact of EVS

Seeing the impact of EVS on clients and Filipino VAs is the most rewarding part. Clients reclaim time for family and business growth. VAs gain opportunities to buy homes, support families, and create financial independence.

Biggest Mistakes I See Business Owners Make

Business owners often self-sabotage: they either don’t provide new hires with the right tools, or they don’t let go and trust their team. I’ve learned to empower my team and step back. With clear systems, the right person can handle almost any role. That’s freedom, and it’s how EVS scales.

My Advice to Business Owners

Stop trying to do it all. You can’t, and it’s not healthy or scalable. Be humble, trust your team, and let them lead. Often, your team knows more than you do—allowing them to step in drives growth and builds stronger businesses.

What I’m Grateful For

I’m deeply grateful for my EVS team. Their commitment, passion, and skill enable me to be the entrepreneur and mother I am today. The original team handled 20,000 tasks while keeping everything running smoothly. The new team brings fresh energy and innovation. I’m proud of them every day.
